Many people have plants in their homes for aesthetic
reasons, or perhaps because they emit oxygen into the
|
atmosphere. However, plants can also help to clean the air in your home, so maybe there's no need for ionisers or air purifiers if your room is full of plants! In 1999 NASA published the results of research they had carried out concerning plants, and specifically plants that remove common chemicals from the home. The most common three pollutant chemicals they researched were: benzene, formaldehyde and trichloroethylene. The following link gives more details about these, and how the plants you have in your home can in fact help to improve the quality of the air in your home. This article covers the research conducted by NASA and provides a table of the plants that were examined and the pollutants they remove from the air. It is from the Aerias website which provides information and resources on indoor air quality from a wide range of sources. close window |
