Techniques and Methods

There are many methods to exhaust the energies of the
day, some of which are lengthy and arduous while some are
simpler and can be performed in a relatively short time period, depending on what is needed. Usually the heavier the internal traffic, the more one has to work to exhaust the remains of the day. Many times a good shower will relieve some of the unwanted energies that hang around and in us. Some small physical exercise, even a walk can relieve us of internal energies built up through the day. Remember that exhaust is the first needed process, before considering replenishing or changing focus.

Some useful tips for energy exhaust include the following:
  • As can be seen throughout the animal kingdom, the principle of stretching is a process of the evacuation of unwanted energies and the reintroduction of new energies into the body. Therefore five minutes of deliberate stretching exercises, particularly in the region of the shoulders, arms, legs and general torso, is beneficial to a process of changing of energy.

  • The lungs are major generators and inductors of energy, and simple practices involving deep breathing in which the out-breath carries the main emphasis can relieve the system of old energies and introduce new energies. A good practice in this is to breathe in in short sharp breaths and to breathe out in one or two long breaths. This can be performed in conjunction with the stretching exercises; or you may want to use the arms in slow movements held out at the side of the body to endorse the process of relieving energies, rather like some of the simple tai chi movements.

  • As you do the stretching and/or breathing exercises, you might want to consider what you want to relegate from the day, what from the day has been a success or learning, and what you want to focus into for the next part of the day.

  • A good way of relieving unwanted mental energies is to sit on a chair and gently rock back and forth.

  • If the day has involved particularly stress or anxieties, focus should be upon the stomach region, in which placing your hand lightly on the stomach as you breathe with the stomach muscles will help to settle the nervous activity of that region.
