All too often in life we only truly appreciate something
when we lose it.

When were ill, we long for the simple wellbeing of good health; when we hurt a limb and can't use it, we yearn to be complete and able to fully function again. Well, why not celebrate the fact of being complete and well when we are actually well, without having to wait for something to go wrong before we offer our body the value and appreciation it warrants? Our body is truly amazing it works every hour of every day to get rid of toxins, to rebalance and recharge, and to sustain and nourish every part of our system. Scientific research has now proved that human cells have a form of memory and consciousness, and this in turn has a huge impact on a persons health and wellbeing (as shown graphically in the DVD What the Bleep do We Know?) So the aim of the Gratitude Meditation is to fill the cells in your body with value and recognition, to thank them all, and in so doing, to achieve a sense of unity between all the different lives within. And although the meditation is very simple, it will have the effect of giving positive affirmation to the many parts that go to make up you, that often get overlooked in the hurryscurry of life today. The meditation can be done as often or rarely as you like, and in whatever situation you choose while walking or showering, or as a seated or lying contemplation. It is a very simple exercise and allows you to use the phrasing of your choice as you feel fits. So as an example, well begin with the feet and work upwards, offering gratitude to each part of our body for its work. So you might say something like thank you, feet, for bearing my weight each and every day, so well and so faithfully, or whatever words resonate with you. And as you say or think these words, think of your feet and the many parts that go to make them up, and imagine them filled with a blue or yellow glow, with all the cells in the feet feeling the warmth of gratitude and value. Then move up to the legs where you might say something like thank you, legs, for keeping me moving forward and in good balance. Likewise, imagine all parts of the legs full of the blue or yellow glow, filled with well-being. Continue this now upwards throughout the whole body. How many parts of the body you mention is down to you, and may depend on factors such as how much time you are able to give to the exercise, or which parts of the body may need particular attention at any given time. It could be that if there is a problem with a particular aspect of your health, you may choose to spend extra time giving affirmation and wellbeing to that part of your body. You may choose to include parts such as the reproductive, digestive, respiratory, circulatory and lymphatic systems; the skeleton and the nerves; the mind, the emotions and the soul. It really is up to you. The more you practise the exercise, the more free you will become in it and the more focussed you can be on the parts of the body to include. You'll be amazed at the difference that some throughout wellbeing in all your cells can cause in your health and daily life. © 2007. All rights reserved. close window |
